Nürburgring 1000 Km Race

The 1000km race at the Nürburgring is a historic endurance race that began in 1953. Originally held on the Nordschleife, the race became a legendary part of the motorsport calendar as one of the main parts of the newborn Sports Car World Championship in 1953.

Since the races in this new championship had to cover a minimum distance of 1,000 kilometers, it was very quickly decided that the race will cover precisely this distance. Finally, on August 30, 1953, the starting flag falls for the first time for the 51 qualified vehicles, which are sent on the long journey through the Eifel forests in eight different classes. The first overall victory went to Scuderia Ferrari, whose two star drivers Alberto Ascari and Giuseppe Farina brought the laurels to Italy. The two needed a full eight hours and twenty minutes in their Ferrari 375 MM for the 44 laps.

All the great racing legends were victorious on the legendary track with Grand Prix part and Nordschleife until 1983. Ascari, Moss, P. Hill, Surtees, Siffert, von Trips, Ahrens, Peterson, Ickx, Merzario.

Stommelen, Heyer, Stuck, Alboreto, Mass, Redman, Wollek, Piquet, Patrese, Ludwig, Laffite, Fitzpatrick or Vic Elford.

The real 1000 km revival will offer a total distance of 26 kilometres per lap, almost 7 hours of racing, almost 40 laps of the Grand Prix circuit and the Nordschleife.

One of the biggest challenges for teams, man and machine. The race returned for the first time in 2021 and is establishing itself as a major event in historic motorsport.

While the main series ended in 1983, the race has been revived in recent years and is beginning in 2021 held for historic race cars on a combined Grand Prix and Nordschleife track.
